paul joins us. let's go "outfront." tonight, we have late breaking developments in the petraeus scandal. first, we are just learning the name of the fbi agent who helped start the investigation that eventually led to the resignation of the nation's top spy. the name of the agent is frederick w. humphries ii. he's 47 years old. he was the investigator who first learned of a complaint from jill kelley that she received harassing e-mails. the government has taken away for now, the top security clearance of paula broadwell, the former mistress of david petraeus. this is after investigators found substantial classified information on her computer and the glare being question, did broadwell's relationship with david petraeus give her access to these classified documents? very loud explosions all around us tonight as israeli missiles land. we've also heard the distinct whoosh of outgoing rockets as hamas and other militant groups return fire. tonight, it seems this burst of violence is only getting worse. all day long, rockets filled the bright blue sky, gaza militants firing on israel. at least one rocket landed tonight in tel aviv, israel's commercial capital. sirens blared as residents hit the ground. three israelis were killed earlier when a rocket hit their apartment in the south. this as israeli warplanes pounded the gaza strip. its target? militant groups, most notably, hamas. but caught in the cross-fire, at least 12 civilians, including that 11-month-old boy. "what did my son do to die like this," his father cried. this is what the aftermath of one of these strikes looks like. a massive crater filled with cinderblock and rebar, the strong smell of diesel fuel, several of the houses around were damaged very badly. and the residents here on this street tell us they hope hamas and the other groups keep firing rockets into israel in retaliation

to stay down actually is that that was our fred pleitgen. tell us how things have changed there. there's a new normal. >> reporter: oh, you're absolutely right. the new normal is that basically people have to live with the threat of rocket attacks the entire day. what they do is stay inside most of the day. it's interesting to see. every time people go outside they have to plan their route very carefully so they're near the vicinity of a hard shelter in skas there's another rocket attack. i can tell you this morning there's been a lot of them. i'm standing in front of those iron dome rocket intercepter batteries right now and literally about four minutes before our show it wechblt off and fired about three intercepter missiles that hit about four hamas rockets i would say about 200 yards above our head. we ourselves have been in the hardened shelter at least four time as day. so certainly it's taking a heavy toll on life. people can't get on with business. people are living in constant fear and a lot of people tell us they hope this ends soon, victor. >> let's talk about this on the bo

has been in the middle of all the action in gaza city. sarah, thanks for joining us. what's happening there right now? >> reporter: thank you, gary. yeah, we can hear right now drones over gaza. and that sound, it sounds very much like a lawnmower. it's been going on for hours and hours and hours. we know a lot about drones. israel uses them quite often. they can stay up in the air. they're unmanned, obviously, for more than 20 hours depending on the payload. so if they're just looking for targets, they can be in the air all night long. after the sound of drones, you start hearing the sound of planes flying and then the sounds of bombs dropping. and the result is usually a massive damage to buildings, a big plume of black smoke. want to talk a little bit about we were talking about the rockets coming from here. we have seen several very close to us actually. we're in the center of gaza city. you know this is very densely populated place. one of the things that israel complains about is, look, we're trying to hit very specific targets. but they're blasting the rockets off from populate

elissa harrington is on the ground with the latest information what can you tell us. >> reporter: there's mud and water everywhere. this is what we're seeing throughout several blocks in this daly city neighborhood. here here on lasaine and price street and police say that it appears a water main broke somewhere up the hill so the water has been gushing down flooding the streets. some cars have water going past their tires. we have some video a little bit earlier. let's bring that up. residents have been waking up. they tell me because of the sound of o hospitallers. they're -- helicopters. there are police out here, firefighters out here. and when residents walk outside and see this, a lot of them concerned. quite a few have been evacuated from their homes and last we heard, they were going to a nearby park. we have yet to speak with any of those people and are still trying to get updates from police and firefighters, but a a big mess clean up here. when we first arrived it looked like there was gushing water and at this point everything seems to be still. maybe they're getting

're with us today. and let's get started. first up, we just can't call it the petraeus scandal anymore. today, the u.s. general in charge of allied troops in afghanistan, the top commander john allen is himself the subject of a pentagon investigation of allegedly inappropriate communications with jill kelley. yes, that jill kelley, we're talking about the same tampa housewife whom david petraeus' then mistress paula broadwell apparently saw as rival. a whole new chapter in a saga that since last friday has been one bombshell after another. and so far, all of them have something to do with kelley. she's a volunteer military liaison at the air force base, home of the u.s. central command in tampa, florida. kelley complained to the fbi last spring when paula broadwell was having an affair with petraeus allegedly harassed her with jealous e-mails. petraeus admitted the affair with broadwell but denies any elicit contact with kelley. so does general allen who was scheduled for a senate confirmation hearing this very week to become nato's supreme allied commander. today that's on hold, but he will
